Get Your Closet Ready for Fall
Transform your closet and your life.
It’s September, kids are back in school and the transition to colder weather is beginning. Getting your family's closets organized and decluttered will make the transition to the holidays a breeze and simplify the stress of daily school and work outfits. The best way to deep clean a closet is to take it one section at a time. Start with the drawers. These may be in the closet or in a dresser in the room. Socks are always a quick win! Take them all out and put them into pairs. If there is a lone sock or one filled with holes, let those ones go. Go through each drawer and donate any items that don’t fit or are unused. Once you have decluttered, take note of what items may need to be replaced. Use drawer dividers to keep the remaining items neat and tidy.
After the drawers are under control, start on the hanging items inside the closet. I find it’s helpful to categorize items and tackle one section at a time. Ask yourself (truthfully) if you actually need the item and will wear it. If the answer is no, remove it. The clean, decluttered closet will create so much less stress than a closet overfull with items you don’t want or need.
SIMPLE DECOR
In a closet with shelves available, baskets are a great option to contain and organize everything from jeans and sweaters to shoes and bags. Just remember to keep baskets and decor simple. It will help to make the closet feel tidy, calm and a sanctuary to start and end your day.
A beautiful tray, a small fabric basket or a drawer organizer can be the finishing touch in keeping small items organized.
