Freedom Through Organization: Creating Space for What Truly Matters

There’s something about July that invites us to pause and reflect on freedom. We celebrate our country, our values, and—when we’re lucky—our time with the people who matter most. At Salt by Sabrina, we believe that freedom begins right at home.

When your home is cluttered and chaotic, it’s hard to feel fully present. But when everything is in order—even just a drawer or two—it changes how you move through the day. It creates margin. It makes room for joy.

And here’s the thing no one tells you about organization: it’s not about having a perfect home. It’s about building a space that works for the life you live—especially during seasons of celebration.

Our Family's Fourth of July Tradition

Every year on the Fourth of July, our home becomes the gathering place. My family comes together to celebrate the day—this year, we’re hosting my husband’s family for a pancake breakfast for 40. Then we’ll head out on a hike to Timpanogos Cave, followed by swimming, pickleball, and a big, beautiful barbecue. We’ll end the evening with full plates, tired feet, and a quiet moment to watch the fireworks.

That kind of day could be stressful. But it’s not. Because we’ve created systems—simple ones—that make our home a place where people can gather easily. When everything has a place, cleanup is quick. When drawers are organized, cooking for a crowd feels less chaotic. When the rhythm of your home is working, you can focus on what really matters: being present.

Tips to Create Space for Summer Joy

If you're ready to welcome people into your home—whether it's two guests or twenty—here are a few small but powerful ways to prepare:

  • Reset just one space. Pick a drawer, closet, or surface that sees heavy summer use and bring it back to neutral. Let that one small reset anchor your energy.
  • Create a hospitality station. Use a caddy or basket to group hosting essentials—napkins, serving utensils, sunscreen, extra towels—so you’re not scrambling.
  • Declutter your surfaces. Clear kitchen counters and entryways offer breathing room during busy summer days. Store what you don’t use daily.
  • Prep for memory-making. Have a go-to drawer or cabinet for things that make summer feel special: sparklers, sidewalk chalk, your favorite picnic supplies.

An organized home doesn’t just look better—it feels better. It helps you show up, stay calm, and celebrate with ease. And this season, that might be the greatest freedom of all.
